Todoist is built for reach: it runs across major platforms and connects to a broad integration ecosystem. That makes it a sensible choice when a task system has to follow a mixed-device team.
Tasks makes a different trade. It stays inside the Apple ecosystem and uses that focus for native controls, system automation and project structures that can vary from one project to another.
Both apps now work with AI assistants. Todoist’s official MCP server lets ChatGPT or Claude act on your account. In Tasks, an assistant joins a project as its own collaborator, labelled Agent: you assign it tasks, it comments under its own name, and revoking access hands its tasks back to you. Limitations worth knowing
Tasks has a narrower platform and integration surface. Todoist does not offer the same Apple-only depth or lifetime-purchase path.
