Asana is built for organisations. Timelines, dependencies, rules, portfolios and workload views help many teams coordinate, and seats, guests and an admin console keep it under control.
Tasks is built for a person or a small group on Apple devices. It brings native widgets, Siri, Shortcuts, Apple Watch and location reminders, while each project keeps its own statuses, fields and Kanban board. There is no per-seat bill: only the person sharing a project needs Tasks Plus.
Asana’s AI Teammates are Asana’s own agents, included on paid plans with a monthly request allowance. Asana’s MCP server also lets ChatGPT or Claude act as you. In Tasks, your own assistant joins a project as its own collaborator, labelled Agent, that you assign tasks to. Here is how it works.
If you run cross-team projects with reporting and approvals, Asana is the stronger platform. If your projects are personal or small and you work on Apple devices, Tasks does more of what you need for much less.

Limitations worth knowing
Tasks has no web app, Gantt timeline, rules engine or admin console, so larger organisations running complex cross-team projects will outgrow it.
Switching over
Export each Asana project to CSV and recreate its sections as statuses in Tasks. An assistant connected to both apps through MCP can help move tasks project by project, but check the result before you archive the original.
